Treatment Modalities

While I am a big believer in the importance of the therapeutic relationship in treatment outcomes, it is also important to identify common treatment modalities. Please feel free to look through common modalities used, as well as what you can expect. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses primarily on identifying, challenging, and changing negative thought patterns.

CBT can be used in treatment of a variety of mental health disorders including, but not limited to, Anxiety, Depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

  • Often our anxiety is based in control and can manifest in avoidance and safety seeking behaviors. In doing this, though it may feel great in the moment, we are training our brains that these behaviors are protective and useful. Unfortunately, they can also often negatively impact daily life- which is where Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) comes in.

I frequently find when client’s immediately face the idea of beginning ERP and putting protective behaviors in the past they find themselves feeling overwhelmed, and sometimes a bit scared- and that’s perfectly normal.

My response is always the same- exposure plans are something we create together and complete at your pace. The idea of ERP is not throwing you into the deep end of a fear, but progressively learning safety through small exposures.

Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) is a great tool that can be used for multiple mental health concerns including Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and many more.

  • Mindfulness practice focuses on teaching practical tools to reduce anxiety, stress, and depression.

In treatment we will utilize tools such as meditation and breathing techniques. One of the main focuses of mindfulness is encouraging our brain to stay in the present moment and reduce immediate reactivity.

Mindfulness practice can be used in treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Anxiety Disorders, and Depression.

  • I am a strength-based, trauma informed therapist. Additional modalities utilized include Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and more. For more information please feel free to reach out.
